Art
Smart |
There is a new nationally recognized program that brings art
history into the classrooms. The program will introduce some
well-known artists to the children in an interactive format. For example,
when learning about Michelangelo, who is famous for painting the ceiling of
the Sistine Chapel, the students may be asked to try to draw a picture on
paper taped to the underside of their desks. |
|
The curriculum planning and teaching of this program is being
done by two former teachers and FAC members, Betty Walker and Sue Smith.
They are targeting DeTour and Drummond elementary schools in the fall and
spring of the 2003 school year. This programs is helpful in rural areas
(like ours) where children don’t have the opportunity to go on field trips
to art museums. |
Community Services |
We support many other programs in our
community. Art Programs, Music, Marching Band, Student Writing
Contest, Band Instrument Refurbishment etc... Help us to continue these
efforts, join our group. |
|
We
have donated thousands of dollars in total to a wide array of programs
including, the DeTour Recreation Committee, DeTour School Band, LesCheneaux
High School Band, Drummond Island Digest Student Writing Contest to name a
few. |

Fourth Annual "A Village Christmas" Was
a great sucess!

Over 50 vendors will display tables of products at over a dozen locations throughout DeTour
Village. Get into the flavor of the 19th Century and dress the
occasion, it will be a great time. Dress Hints Link
Hopefully we can duplicate last year's weather. A free Hat Making
workshop is scheduled for Nov 24th, and we can use some help decorating the hall
during our workbee Nov 28th. A free horse-drawn wagon will
make a loop around town and will transport shoppers between the many vendor sites.
(Mr. Hall's wagon sponsored by the DeTour Area Chamber of Commerce.) Door
prizes and refreshments were to be found and almost all locations.
Mark your calendars. Maps will be available at the participating
businesses and at this site. Map

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - December 14, 15, 16 2007
This
year
the Fine Arts Council will be sponsoring a fun family theater event, The
Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson and directed by Dave
Rhinard. Based
on the wonderful children’s book, this is a hilarious story of
the efforts of a woman and her husband to put on the annual Christmas pageant.
The funny part is that they have to cast the horrible Herdman kids - probably
the meanest, nastiest, most inventively awful kids in the history of the world.
